Primrose Hill House is a regency villa attributed to the architect James Gandon. Its political history is connected with Dr. Irwin and Eamon de Valera who was a frequent visitor to the house. The house and grounds were part of the Lucan House Demesne, celebrating 50 years in 2008.
Way back in the late 18th century, Mrs Power of Kilfane House created the Glen and Waterfall as a 'far flung' addition to the House's main garden. In those days, it was meant to be a source of entertainment, to amuse visitors and hold casual supper parties or picnics. As this spot was two long miles away from the 'big house', it also demanded a pleasant wandering through the estate grounds to reach it, either by foot or by horseback: quite an undertaking for the ladies in their long skirts, and quite definitely a lengthy journey for anybody.
